------guidelines-------------
• Use the site to showcase the work -- make sure the interface
does not interfere with the users intention to view the work - the content
is the reason they are there.
• Don't create something that cant be sustained -- the site needs
to be updated from time to time -- make sure you're not in over your head.
• Keep your content and design specific to your intended audience
-- for example, if the site is geared to showcaseing art work -make sure
to include size information, medium and any other helpful info.
• Make sure the navigation is clear so that the user can find there
way around the site and get the information they need to get in as quick
a way as possible -- try to keep in mind how short a time most people
will stay on a web site.
• Be as professional as you need to be -- some sites don't have
to be as formal as others. Some don't need to have their own URL -- think
about what level of professionalism you might need -- research and compare
with other web sites of similar nature.
• Be as thorough as you can be in communicating your skills and
your contributions to projects you've worked on -- if someone is accessing
your portfolio its because they want to know about you - dont be worried
about adding depth to your content.
• Use appropriate formats to display your work - if you do video
work then video clips are an expectation that users viewing the site would
expect - don't worry about displaying work in multiple formats if you
need to.
• Start now - this will not be your last version of the site -
don't try to make it so perfect you never finish if - there will be time
for revisions and redesigns in the future. :-)
